Automated External Defibrillater (AED)

Defibrillators (AEDs) have proven to significantly increase the chances of survival in cases of cardiac arrest. This course teaches candidates how to give effective CPR and use an AED to feel confident if an emergency occurs. The AED course is endorsed by CIMSPA.

RLSS UK is regulated by Ofqual, Qualifications Wales and CCEA in Northern Ireland.

Prerequisites:

This course is recommended for everyone. Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the time of taking the assessment. No prior knowledge is required.

Course Content:

A range of subjects are covered, including:

  • Assessing an incident
  • Managing an unresponsive casualty
     • CPR including AED
     • Pocket mask
     • Recovery position
  • Safety consideration with an AED

Assessment:

Automated External Defibrillator is Trainer Assessed throughout the course. The assessment should determine a candidate’s ability to act safely, promptly and effectively to deal with a casualty suffering a cardiac arrest.

Renewal:

To re-qualify, candidates must complete the four hours of training and assessment again.

 

Course Overview:
AED is part of the guidelines for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in the UK and Europe and a vital part of improving the chance of survival in cases of cardiac arrest, in some cases up to 75%.

The IQL Level 2 Award in Automated External Defibrillator- AED enables someone to give CPR and use an AED.

About the Course:

The Automated External Defibrillator course is four hours and is designed to be delivered in one day. The course comprises of practical work and theoretical classroom work, including practical assessment on CPR and AED.

The course will be delivered using a variety of methods including:

  • PowerPoint Presentations
  • Flip Chart Exercises
  • Guided Group Discussions and Activities
  • Practical Demonstrations and Training

The AED qualification is Ofqual accredited and valid for two years.

Equipment Required:

You are required to bring the following items to the course:

  • Photographic Identification (must be shown to the trainer on the first day of the course)
  • Pen / pencil / highlighter / paper / pad

Course Assessment:
The course syllabus and practical skills are continually assessed by the course trainer. The assessment will include verbal question and answer sessions and practical demonstrations of CPR and AED.
